Inextricably linked with Australia’s golden heritage, and the turmoil of the First World War, the Australian sovereigns of 1916 are highly sought after – especially when found in the magnificent Extremely Fine to Uncirculated quality presented here.
The First World War had a dramatic impact on sovereign production in Australia, with the mintages generally much lower than in the decades leading up to ‘the war to end all wars’. As Australian soldiers made their debut on the Western Front at the Battle of Fromelles and the Battle of the Somme in 1916, the Australian branches of the Royal Mint all struck sovereigns, but did so in small numbers – particularly at the mints in Melbourne and Sydney. Indeed, the 1916M and 1916S Sovereigns had mintages of little more than one million apiece, and both are considered very scarce in better grade today. It is this fact that makes this opportunity so important.
After many months of painstaking accumulation, MacquarieMint has been able to assemble a tiny number of complete 1916 Sovereign Trios – each comprising a coin from the Perth, Melbourne and Sydney Mints. In better-than-usuallyseen quality, the King George V 1916P, 1916M and 1916S Sovereigns are all presented in superb Extremely Fine to Uncirculated condition.
With only a few complete 1916 Sovereign Trios available – each beautifully presented in a plush timber case with a Certificate of Authenticity – we highly recommend you do not delay your order.
